Argosy & Flora

A couple of things off the needles this week.

I’ve finished the scarf for my pal in the International Scarf Exchange. Well, at least the knitting part. It is blocking & then I have just 2 ends to weave in. Once I got over the fact that it was not knitting up as I had envisaged I decided that, yes, I did like the scarf. The yarn was a joy to knit with, the pattern (Argosy from knitty.com) is easy but produces something quite effective…just hope my pal likes it.

Also off the needles, well mostly hook, is Flora. Flora was inspired by a bathing hat I remember my mum wearing. Combine that with the fact that it is Spring in my part of the world & you have Flora.

I’m quite happy with how Flora turned out as it is crocheted & I made it up as I went. Seeing as I can’t follow a crochet pattern yet anyway.

I have considered taking some crochet lessons but am in 2 minds about it. On one hand I think it would be great to learn to crochet ‘properly’, be able to hold the hook correctly (so I don’t get throbbing pains in my arm), learn a few more stitches & be able to follow a pattern. But then I think that the reason I want to crochet is to combine it with my knitting in a freeform manner. I’m scared that learning how to do it ‘properly’ may be constraining. As it is now I don’t know very much about crochet, I don’t know many stitch patterns but I’m also not held back because someone has said that you can’t/don’t do that in crochet.

Anyway Flora is now in my shop.
