Contemporary Knitting

Contemporary Knitting for Textile Artists by Ruth Lee, is available at Amazon. If you’re in Australia, I got my copy here.

This a a reasonably large hard cover book. It starts with some explanation of equipment used in this type of knitting, including the use of materials not usually associated with knitting, like basketry cane.

Plenty of large clear photographs and lots of samples to work through make this a book I would highly recommend. The chapters include – Borderlines, Knitting with Beads, Advanced Techniques for Knitting in Rounds & Creative Journeys (just to name a few).

Do not buy this book if you want to learn how to knit or are looking for a new garment pattern to make. Do buy this book if you are a textile artist interested in a new medium, a knitter who wants to push the boundaries, create a 3D knitted sculpture, knit wire, paper & plastic with or without yarn or be inspired by innovative ideas & techniques.
