Needle felting

I have been having a bit of a play on my new Janome Xpression needle felting machine.
The results have been not as I expected but I think a lot of that is due to inexperience combined with using the wrong background fabric for the effect I was after.
I have been disappointed with the holes left in the fabric & how it has appeared to really pull around the edges of the wool roving I’ve been felting on.
I also chose a light drapey fabric thinking it would make a light drapey wrap. The end result is a lot stiffer than I expected…maybe I’m applying the wool too thickly…..and it’s also scratchy….the result of a man made fabric perhaps?….would pure silk be better?
Once the busyness of Christmas/New Year is over I will make a trip to the local Spotlight store & see what I can find.
Also off the needles is the round dishcloth. I was thinking of these as gifts but I’m going to gift this one to me.
Recently I have been reading a lot of blogs from people in the northern hemisphere. I have really enjoyed the pictures of their local areas, especially at this time of year when for many it means snow(!).
I live in a very beautiful part of the world but I take it for granted. After thinking about how much I have been enjoying seeing others photos on their blogs I am going to try & remember to take my camera out with me & get some snaps of the local area & my life. Maybe, just maybe, some of you will enjoy it as much as I do.
