Want Cashmere?

When I started the Yarn About Yarn online yarn store the idea was to bring  beautiful yarns to Australia that weren’t already available here. I wanted to offer yarns that I personally would like to work with….and who doesn’t love Cashmere.
So I started searching for a 100% cashmere yarn that was both a high quality product & ethically produced.
I found the Diamond Fibers company. Yarn About Yarn is currently stocking 100% cashmere from Diamond Fibers in fingering weight in 5 colours. You can check them out here: http://www.yarnaboutyarn.com.au/product/cashmere-lace

I asked the “Yarnie in Chief” at Diamond Fibers (Connie) for the background story. Here’s what she said:

Through the ages, cashmere has been known as the diamond of natural fibers, reserved for royalty.

We noticed that it’s getting harder and harder to find quality cashmere on local yarn shop’s shelves.

We exclaimed “This cannot be, everyone needs a little cashmere in their life!” and so Diamond Fibers Yarn was born.

Located in a picturesque county west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; we are direct importers of the finest cashmere hand knitting yarns, from the best spinning mills in Italy.
While all raw cashmere fiber comes from the same dry, high altitude, snowy plains of Mongolia; as devout knitters we are committed to the slow fashion movement. We at Diamond Fibers have made a conscious decision to select yarns spun in Italy because it is a country with a long history of ethical business practices and sustainable wages for workers. Crafters can rest easy knowing their heirlooms are infused with good karma.

What knitter hasn’t been met with incredulous retorts of “I can go to Cheap-Mart and buy 5 packs of 6 socks each for what your yarn costs!” Hand crafters have participated in the slow fashion movement longer than most: a hand knit item, made with love and care for a special someone is a treat hard to duplicate with packaged goods that are a fraction of the cost. By giving knitters and crotchetiers the access to superior fibers to showcase their skills, Diamond Fibers aims to be part of a process that creates family heirlooms that will be treasured for generations to come.
